Early Beginnings 

Javier’s interest in guitar began at age 12. He took his first lessons at one of the best schools in Valencia, “El Chufa.” Later, he studied in the “Real Conservatorio de Musica” in Madrid. While in Madrid, Javier attended classes given by well-known professionals such as Andres Batista, Paco Peña, and Gerardo Nuñez.

Professional Accomplishments

Soloist  

Javier made his debut into the professional world of Flamenco guitar at age 14 when he gave his first Flamenco guitar recital. By the age of 16 Javier had realized that Flamenco guitar was not only his passion but also his specialty, and he has yet to stray from that path. 


At the same time, it has been fulfilling to Javier as a musician to experiment and collaborate with other styles of music aside from Flamenco. Javier has done this through his work with the group “Al-Andalus” and with Georges Moustaki. 


Javier has performed live in concert as a soloist since 1976, and together with guitarist Manuel Reyes since 1993. 


In 2001, Javier created the group “Javier Zamora Quarteto,” a Flamenco music instrumental group with contributions from other non-Flamenco sounds, such as the guitar as a soloist instrument. 


Participation in the following festivals: “Festival de Avignon” (France, 1986), “Trovada del Mediterrani” (Valencia, Spain, 1987 & 88), “Cumbre Flamenca” (Madrid, Spain, 1989), “Veranos de la Villa” (Madrid, Spain, 1990), “Festival Musicas Etnicas” (Colonia, 1992), “Semana Internacional de la Guitarra” (Milan, Italy, 1993), “Teatro Romano de Sagunto”(1996), “I y III Festival Flamenco L,Audotori de Torrent” (1997 & 99), “Festival de Flamenco” (Valencia, Spain, 1995-1997 and in 2001 with the presentation of his own exhibit), Concert during the Flamenco Festival, (Valencia, Spain, August 2004), Pacifico Yokohama (Japon-2005), Nam (Los Angeles-2006).


Song  

Javier first began playing accompanying guitar for Flamenco singers in Madrid where he played regularly in the group “Peñas Flamencas” 

Javier has accompanied such singers as: El Loreño, Juan Rosales, El Beni, V. Briones, Duende, Carlos Cruz, David Lagos, Melchora Ortega, Antonio “El Malagueño,”  “El Chino,” Amaro Carmona, Bonela Hijo, Rubito Hijo, Antonio Campos, “El Pety,” Jose Galan, and Ginesa Ortega, among others.

Dance  

In regards to playing for dance, Javier has accompanied Javier LaTorre, the group “Rosita Duran,” the ballet of Martin Vargas and Francisco Martin. And Support Staff (guitar), academic courses: Carmen Lopez, Amparo Benimelli, Mari Cruz Alcalá,  and the European Center of Dance (Valencia, Spain).

Javier has participated in the following works: “El arte de Pepe Granada” (1980), “La musica del Mediterraneo” (1987), Musica Trovada del Mediterraneo” (1988), Sueños al atardecer” (1997), Paton “Acariciame” (1997), “El Pety, Flamenco de Noche y dia” (1997), “El Pini de Cadiz: La fiesta de la Privadilla” (2000) and the band from the movie “Abyssynia” (2001). 


Recently (February, 2005), Javier recorded his first solo album, “Aire del Mediterraneo”

Awards  

3rd Place: National Competition of Flamenco Guitar, “Ramon de Algeciras” Madrid, Spain, 1991. 

Finalist: National Competition of Flamenco Guitar “Cante de las Minas.” La Union, 1995.

Teaching 

Guitar, rhythm and beat, Professor at the School of Music, “Duetto” Valencia, Spain, from 1999-2003. 

Head of musical department of Flamenco: “La Academia L’Espai” Valencia, Spain, 2003-Present. 

In 2002, together with Carlos Benavent, gave the Masters Class “El bajo electrico en la musica Flamenca” for the School of Music “Duetto” in Valencia.

Publications
